Secrets of the Job Hunt

Career Advice Podcasts & Job Seeker Network

Are you using Twitter to network for a job? For social reasons? A bit of both?

I've just created a Twitter account and I'm finding it a challenge to constantly post new tweets. Some people are tweeting like crazy!

I use twitter to see what is going on with people locally in Puerto Rico and also abroad. I am following the NY Times and WSJ to get up to the minute news links. Many people I see who use Twitter, do it from their phone. That is why they tweet every other minute. I was reading Business Week today about Blogging and they wrote about Twitter. One girl used it as part of her job hunting and apparently got offered a job in her field. She used it as a micro resume.
Hi Lucilla,

What is the date of the Business Week magazine you are reading concerning Blogging and Twitter. I am writing about social networking this month, and the article may help me.
Lisa - I know what you mean! Micro-blogging is a challenge...How often to post. What to say? It's personal. It's professional! I'm "following you" now. (I still think that sounds sinister!) Feel free to follow me at twitter.com/Keppie_Careers!

Someone just introduced me to a dandy twitter tool called summize.com. It's a twitter search engine - search for conversations in realtime.

I searched for "how to use Twitter" and 15 responses responses popped up. Most were written in the last few hours.

Seems like we to write more on the topic.
It amazes me how social media tools spawn other social media tools! It's great to have a lot of resources. I'll have to check it out!

Thanks!
Hey Lisa,
If you go to socialmedian.com and sign up as a user, you can join a network called "twitter" and receive daily updates about blog posts or news regarding the site.
Cheers.
I am currently looking into it because I think it can be quite a powerful tool but I can't get twitterfox to work. Anybody having luck with it?
While attending the search engine strategies conference in Toronto, I sat in on a session called Twitter: Ultimate Time Waster, or Great Tool.
Learned about a useful app called whoshouldifollow.com. You enter your Twitter username and the app shows you who might be interesting to you. Helps you weed through the excessive Twitter noise.

Wondering if anyone has used Twitter to find a job and/or contract work?
Lisa -
I love your great suggestions for Twitter applications. Thanks for the updates!
Hi Lisa,

I don't if anyone has found a job using Twitter other than the person mentioned in the Business Week article. See comment from Lucilla. I am also interested in hearing stories from people who have found a job using Twitter.
I am also interested to know who has found a job on twitter but I am actually more interested to know how I can offer jobs on twitter, as a placement/recruiting/staffing agency.

I am able to find twitter messages thanks to a search engine and when I typed job hunting, it gave me hundreds if not thousands of people who were saying are job hunting. Is there a way to filter them by location (ie by city) and to learn more about their profile?
I have a feeling that I am probably very unclear.

My gut tells me that twitter is a very powerful tool and I am trying to find an innovative way to use this tool before the whole world does it first.
