The Refrigeration School First in Arizona Approved to Participate in AVOTEC Program
The Refrigeration School, Inc. (RSI), a leader in training professional heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration and electrical (HVACRE) technicians, announced that it is the first Arizona school selected to participate in the new Army Vocational Technical (AVOTEC) program geared to providing technical education to active duty soldiers.
AVOTEC is an educational pilot program that expands technical training opportunities for individuals seeking high-demand careers after they transition out of the Army. The program provides up to $4,500 annually per person to fund the vocational and technical education of all eligible active-duty soldiers, including those in the National Guard and Reserves on extended active duty.
Phoenix-based RSI offers specialized and innovative programs, providing certificates in HVACRE and an occupational associates degree in Mechanical Maintenance Engineering.
“We are thrilled to be Arizona’s first AVOTEC approved school,” said Liz Cline, president of RSI. “This ground-breaking program will create more technical education, and ultimately, career opportunities for the deserving individuals serving our country.”
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, demand for heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration mechanics and installers is expected to increase by nearly nine percent by 2016.
Congress approved the $19 million AVOTEC pilot program as part of the Consolidated Security, Disaster Assistance, and Continuing Appropriations Act of 2009. Enrollment started February 1 and is open through September 30, 2009 or until the funds run out.
