Man alive!!! Did I ever make the mistake of a life-time. I am a truck driver who got "released" from my former employer due to accidents (In an effort to do a good job, I got into a hurry and got into some minor traffic accidents). And now, I cannot find a job. I really do not have any other job skills so I am finding it hard to get a job. I was there driving a truck for 8 years at my former employer. So I know that I can do the job. Lack of experience is not the issue and my driving record is.
This was the kind of job where I didn't make many friends because I was in one place one day and in a different place the next day. So I didn't develop a network. It is what they call OTR (over the road) trucking. How do I start to develop a network when I really don't know anybody except a few people at my former employer?
I recently starting doing some volunteer work in a Goodwill warehouse and I find that very satisfying but don't expect any job offers from this position. So that helps me take my mind off my troubles.
What am I supposed to do with the rest of my life since I am only 42 years old? I don't have the money to go to school to retrain to a different field. So that is not option. I was looking for some ideas on a new career that a lot of on the job training. I just need to get my foot in the door but I am finding that a little hard to do in this economy.
