What a rising American tennis star can teach us about effective job search
This morning, NBC news profiled American teen tennis star Melanie Oudin on the Today show.
She used one word as her mantra and guiding light to overnight success at the US open.
Believe.
(Coincidentally, Canadian TV promos for the winter Olympics finish with the question," Do you
believe?)
Oudin noted that belief in herself and in her mission paid off.
How is this relevant to a job search?
Belief in oneself is a key to embarking on a job search and winning!
In the past, many of my clients have had the same refrain when stalled in their job
search (until they seek guidance from a credentialed career coach like myself!)
They have a tendency to use the word "hope" instead of using the word believe,
"I believe that I will get an interview....."
"I believe that I will get a call back..."
"I believe that I am a star candidate for ____(desirable employer).
Start changing your vocabulary.
Replace hope with believe.
Learn from athletes who practise mental visualization
Repeat that 3 times a day.
See how your job search improves by the power of positive thinking.
Belief in oneself programmes the brain for success.
