You Own Your Job Search

Reaching out. Following up. Easier said than done. But, have you really, really done every thing you can do to fully exhaust your options?I read emails, comments and hear first hand how job seekers are disgruntled, perhaps even furious, over the fact that employers are not returning their calls or emails.Getting frustrated ain't going to fix it. And quite honestly, I am not convinced that the messages left by these angry job seekers are really all that great. These messages don't work"Hello,…See More

Be curious, learn and over deliver

Drop the assumptions and proceed with the wide-eyed wonder of a childDangerous things happen when we assume.  The truth is, we don’t know what we don’t know.  Whether it be an assumption about an person, process or company- lose it.  Instead become more curious, inquisitive and a seeker of information.  It is so much more fun! Here’s an interesting related short post from SheNegotiates…See More

Who Do You Need To Know

Over the past two weeks I've had conversations with a lot of interesting people. They were with an MBA intern, Branding Guru, Human Resources enthusiast, Leadership author and Social Media/website pro. And that's only a partial list. The backgrounds and talents of these people were all over the map. This is what made it so interesting and exciting. I learned something from each of them. Things that enlightened. The point of this post is to help you understand that "networking" (I hate this word),…See More

Redefining Job Stability

What is a stable job in 2011? Does it exist? Instead of lamenting the fact that there are not any stable jobs anymore, can we change our perspective and accept the fact that this doesn't occur very often. If we continue to look at the way things used to be or "should be", it can be quite discouraging. Here are some of the more common things I hear:"The United States doesn't make anything any more""Good paying jobs are hard to find""I can't afford to take a job making less than I did…See More

I have been unemployed for a few months- this is my first time experiencing a layoff. I have avoided the unemployment office because I have seen them as not offering anything different than I can find online and with less stress. They seem to be full of bored people standing in line or using computers that access the same sites I access at home. Can you tell me more about unemployment offices?
