Know the company, their niche, their product line, their history. I can't think of anything more embarrasing in an interview than not knowing anything about that company that you are interviewing with. Well, maybe what Steve Navarro said would be ...

"Know your history." What I mean by this is, it's not enough to have a great resume, or job profile, but a candidate needs to ensure that he or she is clearly familiar with their background and experience. This speaks to credibility during the int...

Am I crazy?

I saw a colleague at a professional conference recently who moaned about much she hated her job, her boss and her company.

Not only did she lament her situation with me as we chatted between workshops, but she publicly trashed her organization in front of everyone at lunch. After about 5 minutes with her at our networking lunch table, I started to regret inviting her to sit with us. Networking and making new connections were less important to her than telling everyone how she was at the confere… Continue

Writing a Resume Begins With a Targeted Resume Objective

Imagine you are a HR Director sifting through stacks of resumes from potential candidates for a position you needed to fill yesterday. You too would probably be wincing at overused resume objectives which, although well written, tell a busy recruiter nothing about you, your skills, specific goals or your potential value to the organization. This type of generic objective typically won't get your resume past the recruiter's 20 to 30 second power scan.

The following guidelines will help job seeke… Continue

Handling the "Weakness" Question in the Job Interview

Discovered a great blog today - The Career Encouragement Blog - where an HR professional offers tips on handling the "weakness" question in the interview.

My favorite from her list of tips to handle this in the job interview:

1. Expect to be asked this question and don't be blind sided.
2. Make your response relevant to the job.
3. Don't be "cheesy" to use the author's phrase and try to use the old turn-the-weakness-into-a-strength approach.

One additional rule of thumb to keep in mind is tha… Continue

Yes it is a great place to work and set up an office. I live about an hour and fifteen south of SJ.

I will tell ex-students from my teaching days, who are in the U.S., about your blog. I still keep in touch with them via social networking.

If you know of anyone moving to Puerto Rico who is seeking employment, you can send them to www.cimapr.com.

They can register on the job board. We are trying to transition Puerto Rico job seekers into US job seekers and vice versa.

Job seeking in Puerto Rico still a "pound the pavement" strategy. If the employers don't see you in their office, they may not answer your email.

We are looking for employers to register on our job board located in Puerto Rico who are seeking qualified, bilingual candidates, with post secondary education. We do have a skilled workers section as well. Our site and articles are written in both languages which accommodates bilingual job seekers.

It is great to connect with people who have visited the Island.

Lucilla

Hi Marcia,

It's great to meet you. I love your blog. I planned on covering the issues of career transition and re-entering the workforce on upcoming episodes of my podcast, The Savvy Jobseeker. I'm looking for a few guests for the 30-minute podcasts and I'd love to discuss if you're interested.

Best wishes!

Roxanne
