The Smart New Way to Get Hired, a review

Everyone is looking for a “new way to get hired.” There is no doubt that the old ways are of limited use. Maybe it’s possible that the “new way” is actually ages old? Using emotional intelligence to your advantage in a job search makes a lot of sense in an environment where “fit” can be even more important than actual skills.Lisa Caldas Kappasser’s new book, The Smart New Way to Get Hired – Use…See More

Next-Day Job Interview - a review...

By Miriam SalpeterKeppie CareersI would be the last one to suggest you leave your interview preparation to the last minute. So, I hesitated when I saw the title of this book and its subhead: "Prepare tonight and get the job tomorrow." Hmm...Maybe not a good idea to suggest this tact to job seekers? In fact, the authors note that, ideally, you will spend a week or two preparing for an interview. However, I like the gist of the book - you…See More

Miriam I would absolutey love 4 u 2 take a look and quote me a price. The thing is a friend of mine knows someone who restructures resumes and although this person does not no anything about me the response he had emailed her was quiet discouraging and I felt really stupied. So I will send u my resume I know any feed back from u would be corrective criticism not negitive stuff. Thank U =)

Hi Miriam - sorry for the tardy reply, I was off enjoying the summer.

Your question regarding resume scanning is not easy to answer because employers have many options when they make use of the Monster resume database search. Some will specifically search by date range (as in recently uploaded resumes), and some just by school name/ degree. Some employers are more interested in searching by level of experience. So you see, there are so many variables.

Here's a tip, if you already have a resume uploaded on Monster, if you make any change at all and then save your changes, the database will push it to the top of the list because of the recent activity. And many employers will select a recent date range when searching for candidates.

Personally, I would advise the job seeker to represent himself as honestly as possible, meaning note the latest graduation date; this way he will avoid having to backtrack at an interview.
