Job Seekers Aren’t the Only Ones Who Need to Worry About their Online Image

We’ve heard so much lately about the importance of the online image of job seekers and why it is imperative for them to clean up their reputations before any potential employer searches them out. Niche businesses have even cropped up to help with this process and to turn a negative image into a more positive one. Many companies are also spending significant resources to monitor and “fix” their online image, overcoming negative customer reviews and competitor backstabbing.Nevertheless, although…See More

Will Robinson commented on Steve Van Vreede's blog post 'The Human Voice and the Resume'
Wow, 'I' haven't heard that one yet. It would seem that adding 'I's everywhere is different but stupid. 'I' as a person who has hired a lot of people and seen 1000x more resumes, would find 'I's…

The Human Voice and the Resume

Just when I think perhaps I have heard everything, particularly when it comes to resume advice, someone has to go and put something out there that seems to come from left field. The flavor of the moment now seems to be: human-ness, making your resume sound more “human.”And the wisdom that seems to go along with this concept is that you should incorporate “I” into your resume more often so that it seems less like a robot wrote it and more like a person, i.e., a human, wrote it.On the surface, it…See More

Why Group Job Hunting Doesn’t Work

For those of you who are familiar with the work that I do (career coaching, resume writing, and promoter of the group job hunting concept), my title probably seems a bit surprising. After all, how can one of the biggest fans of group job hunting claim that there are times when it doesn’t work?Well, most great concepts require more than just theory to make them beneficial. You can talk all day about how wonderful something is, but without true application, it will fall flat. The same is true for…See More

The Human Side of the Job Search Process

Spend about 30 seconds (or less) perusing the latest job search advice, and you will no doubt come across statements like the following:“A job search is nothing more than a marketing campaign with you being the product.”“An effective job seeker in today’s market understands the power of personal branding.”“A job seeker is a sales professional; the more nuanced the pitch, the more effective the result.”As a career pro who has participated in establishing this line of thinking, I certainly can…See More

Think Before You Tweet: Why Job Seekers Now Need a Twitter Pitch

Maybe you have heard of the “elevator speech,” that 2-minute or less prepared (but not too stiff) speech that job seekers are supposed to have at the ready when conducting face-to-face or over-the-phone networking? You know, that moment when someone goes, “so tell us what you’re looking for”? It usually goes something like this:“I’m Joe Schmoe, a PMP with 10 years of management experience in the financial services arena, etc., etc., etc., and I am now looking for a new opportunity in the north…See More

Steve Van Vreede commented on Steve Van Vreede's blog post 'The Great Cover Letter Debate'
Hi Jeffrey, Some employers, in fact, do not read cover letters because they simply have too many candidates to sift through. However, approximately 33% of employers state that they do still read a candidate's cover letter. So, whether you are…

Jeffrey Slott commented on Steve Van Vreede's blog post 'The Great Cover Letter Debate'
I appreciate your feedback but I would really like to hear your opinion on whether, for people like me who aren't necessarily seeking a career but simply money in the pocket, it would do more harm than good if a cover letter wasn't…

About Me:
My name is Stephen Van Vreede. My company is called No Stone Unturned, and I have been in the career consulting business since 2002 with 8 years of hiring experience prior to that.
The short story is that I have an MBA in Marketing from Villanova University and a dual B.S. degree in Finance & Logistics from the University of Maryland. I am a certified professional résumé writer (CPRW) and a member of the Professional Association of Résumé Writers and Career Coaches (PARW/CC). I am also an Academy Certified Resume Writer (ACRW), a credential that is earned through the Resume Writing Academy and its founders Wendy Enelow and Louise Kursmark.

As I mentioned, I paid my dues in the corporate world eventually running a large-scale call center for a major truck rental company, and I have spent the past 6 years with No Stone Unturned, assisting job seekers in achieving their goals.
I know that my products will work for you because they are based on common-sense principles leveraged with good, solid expertise and knowledge of the job search process. After working with countless job seekers, I have become more and more convinced that most of them do not properly prepare for a job search and rely way too much on online sites and trendy articles to tell them what to do. Thus, they waste a lot of time, money, and energy.
If you still aren't sure whether our services are right for you, feel free to give me a call toll-free at 1-866-755-9800 or better yet, sign up to receive my free Job Search Advice eGuide today.

In February 2009, I am launching a new group job hunting networking site: Noddle Place. Check it out at http://www.noddleplace.com.
