You are certainly aware of how your job search is different from the last time. You are finding it more difficult, time consuming and frustrating, right?
HR/Recruiters are also feeling much the same way. Alison Green contributes to
On Careers. In a recent
post she wrote about how her life in HR has changed during the recession.
1) It takes much longer to look over all the resumes (she looks at every one).
2) The number of high caliber applicants (people to call for interviews) isn't getting smaller like it used to.
3) It is likely they will find the candidate with most, if not all, of the dreamy requirements.
4) Candidates have lowered their salary expectations.
5) Increased number of ovequalified or not at all qualified applicants
My take away from this is that if you are going to apply for a job, make sure that your resume addresses as many of the qualifications as possible. Take your time and customize each and every resume. Use the upper 1/3 of your resume page to excite the reader so they'll want to read on!
