Career Advice Podcasts & Job Seeker Network

CareerBuilder has an article on cnn's site with 5 reasons to quit your current gig. The reasons are;

No. 1: You'll stress less
No. 2: You'll advance your career
No. 3: You'll make more money
No. 4: You'll get better benefits
No. 5: You'll have more time

A bit of a self serving ad if i may say so. Who benefits if you quit? CB wants you to quit so you'll use their site. Clever marketing but thats kind of the underlying message here.

It does seem like odd advice. All indications suggest that it is easiest to find a job when you are employed. In fact, Anita Bruzzese wrote about this in her 45 Things blog today, http://www.45things.com/blog.php.

To me, it does not seem like this is the time to be quitting a job. It is always a good idea to drive your own career bus, so to speak. Make some goals and figure out how to achieve them.

Three good tips: network, create a great resume and know what you have to offer. These are three areas where a career coach can help!

Thanks for the post, Chris

You're right, Miriam. It's definitely important to think through the pros and cons of quitting...especially given the current state of the job market. Plus, there's something to be said about the grass being greener. How many people leave one job for another because they think the stress will be less or that they'll have more time only to find out that isn't the case.
