If you've ever been late to work - and lied about it - you're not alone. A new survey from Careerbuilder.com found that 15 percent of workers arrive late to work at least once a week.
And nearly one in four admit to making up excuses for why it happened. The good news is 43 percent of hiring managers don't mind a little tardiness as long as their work is done well and on time. But lying isn't as easy to forgive. And 27 percent of managers said they're skeptical of excuses.
Traffic was the most common excuse workers used, along with falling back asleep and trying to get the kids dressed and off to school or day care. But some made more creative efforts. One person claimed to have gotten lost in the fog while rowing to work. Another said her ex-husband stole her car so she couldn't drive to work. And another claimed his American Idol audition kept him from getting to work on time.
