Another tool to brand yourself to employers-create a PURL

In a previous blog post, I mentioned about the importance of finding out your online identity.
The site to which I referred was onlineIDcalculator.com

Patti Church, operator of whyhire.me, cites a monster.com survey, which claims that "77
percent of employers will google you," because they need to "manage risk and find the right
candidates." Patti makes a salient point and justifies why job seekers need to know what their
digital identity is before applying for a position, changing careers or preparing for an interview.

You want to be cast in the best light as a job seeker, in front of potential employers.
Now there is another way to improve your online identity. It's called a PURL.

PURL stands for "personal uniform resource locator."

This means a personal web address that you can share with employers.

All you need to do is a Google search. Any career/job search professional, like Patti Church,
advocates the use of a PURL in your resume, cover letter, and business cards. Absolutely!

Refer to your online identity during your interview.

As I always say to my clients, modesty in a job search goes out the window!

Competition is fierce in this economy.

Learn how to create a personal brand in your job search.
