It doesn’t matter if the economy is good or bad, what matters is getting yourself in position to get hired. It is leveraging your knowledge and skills and make sure your dress and appearance is not a barrier to your Image!
A future employer could care less about your fashion savvy! They care about your abilities and how you will fit in the company culture and what you will bring to the job!
Clothing should never be noticed for the wrong reason or enter the room before you do!
The following tips have helped many get hired in good paying careers, even through thepresent economy!
Before you show up for your first interview do the following:
1. Inquire what the expected dress for the Interview. Know what Professional, Business Casual and Casual dress is. Dress exactly as told, do not deviate!
2. Dress two levels above the job you seek. Your wardrobe should be classic and the ability to dress up or down...but dressed right! Be prepared for the unexpected! The first interview can be professional dress and subsequent interviews can be business casual at a restaurant or casual on site at plant facility.
3. Never send your résumé out until you have your interview wardrobe ready to go! When a company is ready to see you, this may be your only chance. Do not put off because you don’t have your interview clothing.
4. Strong résumé, your dress and appearance needs to be a mirrored image!
5. Impeccable dress and image shows you sweat the small details and are productive! Good fit, not disheveled, your attention to detail, it shows!
6. Have family and friends critique you! This is your opportunity to eliminate distractions and reinforce what is positive! Make yourself comfortable with you, then you are to go out and market yourself!
7. Clothing has to be current, not dated or old! Never put yourself in a time capsule! Make sure your clothing is in good shape, pressed, not stained, tattered or frayed. No body order! It is the right size for your body and properly altered! Bring out the best in you!
8. Good grooming and hygiene! Hairstyle complements your face! Hair care products you use make your hair look natural, not oily or dry! If you have dandruff, get it control, nothing is worse to have white flecks on your shoulders! Make sure you do not have a bushy neck or hair growing out of your nostrils or ear lobes. Use fragrances lightly, you don’t want to cause a allergic reaction with the Interviewer. Make sure your fingernails are manicured and no dirt underneath the nails.
“Sweat the small details," get the picture, its that important!
In summary, it's the preparation and attention to details that makes the difference! It has for so many! Be Pro-active! Its knowing what to do and how to do it! Your Dress, Appearance and Image is that important!
