Changing careers for the 55 and older crowd (podcast)

We’ve all heard the horror stories about older workers being forced to postpone retirement because the recession has stripped their 401(k) plans. In this period of massive layoffs and downsizing, some older workers are finding that they have no choice but to: either become indispensible in their current positions or simply change career paths.

But According to Betsy Richards, Director of Career Development at Kaplan University, the 55+ crowd has a lot to offer in terms of competency and experience, and we’re likely to see more of them in the workforce in the years ahead. By 2015, one in five (20 percent) of all U.S. workers will be 55 or older, up from 13 percent in 2000, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
