Green Jobs are coming to San Diego!

Green Career Pathways, sponsored by SDRES, and Next Path was held this past Saturday at UCSD's Price Center. Over 300 people attended the 5-hour event.

There were over 30 exhibitors from educational and vocational institutions as well as trade groups, green non-profit organizations, and career coaches on the exhibit floor. attendees learned how to accelerate there search for a green career. Many new green certification programs were unveiled and will be available this fall.

Speakers from Next Path, San Diego Loves Green, San Diego Workforce Partnership and Center of Policy Initiatives and the Center of Excellence set the table for what the green workforce will look like in the next two years. A panel session included presenters from the California Center for Sustainable Energy, Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest, San Diego Unified School District, The MAAC Project and the Office of the Mayor of San Diego spoke about how the San Diego region is positioned to become a leader in providing green jobs and reshaping the San Diego workforce.

The California Center for Sustainable Energy in partnership with Jobing San Diego ( http://www.greencareernetwork.org ) announced the launch of the Green Career Network. The Green Career Network will provide a destination website for green job seekers and green employers to come together. The California Center for Sustainable Energy will leverage it's network of employers and workforce development organizations like the San Diego Workforce Partnership and local colleges to provide up-to-date information on all the opportunities for training and education programs available through funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

The event was well received by the attendees and exhibitors.
