Secrets of the Job Hunt

Career Advice Podcasts & Job Seeker Network

Outside the traditional, family, friends and health of Thanksgiving blessings, it can be easy to overlook career blessings when we’re out of work. But lest we forget, unemployment has its own blessings.

1) Time – Working a 40 hour week, commuting to and fro can leave us strapped for time to do those things that fuel our soul. This may be volunteering for a cause near to your heart or finally getting around to organizing your family photo albums. Whatever your passion, unemployment gives us time to get in touch with the parts of ourselves that get lost when we’re busy meeting deadlines and attending meetings.

2) Opportunity – Unemployment breeds opportunity—opportunity to pursue the career, the passions that we thought had passed us by. Growing up you dreamed of being a writer, but the demands of kids and family you pursued a different path. Unemployment provides an empty slate to pursue a new career direction.

3) New Skills – Whether it’s fixing the kid’s bike, the kitchen sink leak or creating your own website, unemployment provides us the platform to develop new skills that keep our minds active, stimulated and even open our eyes to new career paths we may not have previously explored.

Often times, unemployment is deemed by society as a curse. Instead, count and cherish your blessings.
