If there is one area that is the most misunderstood when it comes to the job search industry, it is recruiting. Viewed by many job seekers as part savior, a recruiter wields a lot of influence as the perceived key to landing a great position.
And there certainly is no doubt that there are some really good recruiters and headhunters out there. And there certainly have been some job seekers who have had great success with them.
But that is not everyone's story. It is not even the story of the large majority of job seekers. Why? Because most job seekers have a false sense of what a recruiter can and cannot do or, perhaps more accurately, will and will not do.
Like so many other things in life, it comes down to being prepared and having the proper expectations. Without that, you will find yourself missing out on the great assets that the recruiter has to offer.
I know, I know, you are savvy. You've talked with headhunters before, or you know someone who has. How hard can it be, right?
