Career Advice Podcasts & Job Seeker Network

Is there such a thing as too connected? I read an interesting article in the SF Chronicle the other day extolling the virtues of a more conservative online persona...

When you stop and think about it.... it's nothing to "Google" someone you meet, why wouldn't a recruiter do the same thing. You've cyber-snooped on friends; you've found High School buddies on various web sites.... The internet has become a fountain of information for people with a little savvy. Remember, it's not just what YOU put up on your social networking sites and blogs, but your fiends posting that hilarious picture of you in the bar the other night can be just as damning.

One approach is to consider having a person you trust troll cyberspace to see what they can find out about you. Have them look at the content from a recruiter's point of view. As an employer, I like to know who I'm hiring. I'm open-minded and like to have fun too, but there IS something to be said about being discrete!
